LES-370 Personal FM system

A wireless FM (frequency modulation) system consists of a receiver and a transmitter coupled with a microphone. When the user speaks into the microphone, speech is transmitted on a radio frequency to the receiver. Typically, FM systems are used as assistive listening devices to enhance the speech signal and overcome the effects of noise, reverberation, and distance from the speaker.

The iCommunicatorT program has Dragon NaturallySpeaking integrated as the speech recognition engine. The manufacturer of the iCommunicator tested FM systems from various manufacturers to identify a system that: 1) produced a clear speech input (i.e., low noise level), 2) could be modified for this application, and 3) was easy to use and maintain. The LightSPEED personal FM system met or exceeded all criteria.

The FM system is professionally calibrated and the gain controls are locked by the manufacturer prior to shipping to customers. The LightSPEED system transmits on 216 MHz, which allows the device to be compatible with other peripheral assistive listening devices (e.g., Phonak MicrolinkR, cochlear implant speech processor) to provide a total solution. Peripheral assistive listening devices can be coupled with the LightSPEED receiver via the earphone jack.

Another distinguishing characteristic of the LightSPEED system is the high quality noise canceling microphone that allows speakers to yield a high translation accuracy rate even under poor acoustical conditions. Speakers also enjoy flexibility while speaking or dictating as the wireless connection will transmit at distances up to 300 ft. Read DragonNaturally Speaking How To Configuration
